Common questions
What schools use HAST?
Brisbane State High School (Year 7 entry via HAST-P in Year 5 or HAST Secondary in Year 6) is the most well-known, but HAST is used by 100+ selective and independent schools across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, SA, and WA.
Is HAST curriculum-based?
No. HAST measures cognitive ability across abstract reasoning, mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension, and written expression — not curriculum recall. ACER designs HAST to identify academic potential rather than test taught content.
When do offers come out?
Test results and school placement offers are typically released in the second half of the year, with most schools confirming places by Term 4 of the year before entry.
