Question 1Easy

Mei helped her mum wash the ___. Which spelling is correct?

A) dishs
B) dishis
C) dishes
D) dishez

Answer: 'Dishes' is the correct plural of 'dish' — words ending in '-sh' add '-es' to form the plural. 'dishs' incorrectly just adds '-s', and 'dishez' uses a 'z' instead of 's'.

Question 2Medium

Our new ___ read us a story about brave pirates.

A) teecher
B) teacher
C) teachr
D) teachar

Answer: 'teacher' keeps the base word 'teach' and adds the ending '-er'. The other options break this spelling rule.

Question 3Hard

Priya was _______ her pencil case for her ruler. Choose the correct spelling to complete the sentence.

A) searching
B) serching
C) searchhing
D) searcing

Answer: The base word is 'search', which ends in 'ch'. When adding -ing to a base word ending in a consonant digraph like 'ch', you simply add -ing without any changes. 'Searching' is the correct spelling. 'Serching' drops the 'a', 'searchhing' wrongly doubles the 'h', and 'searcing' removes the 'h' from the digraph.
