Question 1 — Easy
At a school athletics carnival, Zac completed three quarters of the 400 m track. Which decimal is equivalent to three quarters?
Answer: Three quarters means 3 out of 4 equal parts, which equals 0.75 as a decimal. 0.5 is one half, 0.34 is close to one third, and 0.7 does not equal any common quarter fraction.
Question 2 — Medium
The fraction bar is divided into 3 equal sections. Two sections are shaded. What fraction of the bar is shaded?
Answer: 2 out of 3 equal sections are shaded, so the shaded fraction is 2/3.
Question 3 — Hard
A wildlife sanctuary near Cairns has 8 enclosures. Each enclosure holds 35 animals. Rangers move 47 animals to a new facility. Which estimate is closest to the number of animals remaining at the sanctuary?
Answer: First estimate 8 × 35 ≈ 8 × 35 = 280, then subtract approximately 47 ≈ 50, giving about 230. The actual answer is 233, so 230 is the closest estimate. 200 is too low and 250 or 330 do not reflect the correct two-step calculation.
