Question 1Easy

A kangaroo joey takes 3 hops to cross each rock. There are 7 rocks in a row. How many hops does the joey take to cross all the rocks?

A) 10
B) 18
C) 21
D) 24

Answer: 3 hops times 7 rocks equals 21 hops altogether. Option A adds 3 and 7 instead of multiplying. Option B is 3 times 6, using one fewer rock. Option D is 3 times 8, using one extra rock.

Question 2Medium

Kofi feeds 5 kangaroos at a wildlife park every day for 6 days. How many times does he feed a kangaroo in total over the 6 days?

A) 11
B) 25
C) 30
D) 35

Answer: 5 multiplied by 6 equals 30, so Kofi feeds kangaroos 30 times in total. 11 is found by adding 5 + 6 instead of multiplying. 25 is the result of 5 × 5, confusing 6 days with 5 days. 35 is the result of 5 × 7, confusing 6 days with 7 days.

Question 3Hard

Priya puts 5 stickers on each page of her scrapbook. She fills 4 pages. How many stickers does she use altogether?

A) 9
B) 25
C) 20
D) 16

Answer: 4 groups of 5 equals 20, so Priya uses 20 stickers altogether. Option A is wrong because 9 comes from adding 5 and 4 instead of multiplying. Option B is wrong because 25 is 5 times 5, not 4 times 5. Option D is wrong because 16 is 4 times 4, not 4 times 5.
