Question 1Easy

Kofi is designing a square patio with a diagonal length of 8 metres. What is the area of the patio to the nearest square metre? (Use the relationship: area = diagonal² ÷ 2)

A) 28 m²
B) 64 m²
C) 36 m²
D) 32 m²

Answer: Area = 8² ÷ 2 = 64 ÷ 2 = 32 m².

Question 2Medium

Zac uses the formula d = s × t to calculate distance, where s is speed and t is time. Find the value of d when s = 12 and t = 3.

A) 15
B) 4
C) 9
D) 36

Answer: Substituting s = 12 and t = 3 gives d = 12 × 3 = 36. Option A adds s + t = 12 + 3 = 15 instead of multiplying. Option B divides s ÷ t = 12 ÷ 3 = 4, reversing the formula. Option C subtracts t from s to get 12 − 3 = 9.

Question 3Hard

The formula for the perimetre of a rectangle is P = 2l + 2w. Find the value of P when l = 9 and w = 4.

A) 26
B) 36
C) 13
D) 72

Answer: Substituting l = 9 and w = 4 gives P = 2(9) + 2(4) = 18 + 8 = 26. Option B incorrectly multiplies all four values together (9 × 4 = 36). Option C adds l and w without multiplying by 2 (9 + 4 = 13). Option D multiplies 2 × 9 × 4 = 72, confusing the perimetre formula with area.
